Jechová, Štěpánka ; Ondrušová, Jiřina (advisor) ; Drahoňovský, Jan (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the possibilities of supporting parental competences for underage mothers. It introduces the period of adolescence in girls, the issues of early pregnancy and early motherhood, and together with the practical part, it deals with the importance of parental competences and their strengthening in the context of social work. The aim of the final thesis is to describe the difficult situation of girls who became mothers at a minor age, and further to find out and describe whether, to what extent and in what way the parental competences of minor mothers were or are being supported in the home environment. To achieve the results, a qualitative research strategy was chosen using a semi- structured interview that was conducted with five minor mothers. The conducted investigation points out that the interviewed girls who decided to raise their child at home were not offered or provided any support for parental competences by experts. Due to the seriousness and complexity of the situation of early motherhood, the results of the survey should lead to some reflection on the involvement of helping professions and to further research and finding out how to make the difficult life situation easier for underage mothers.
Parenting in the context of DLD - Parental experience in connection with difficulties of the child
HABRDOVÁ, Kateřina
The dissertation focuses on the psychosocial impact of developmental language disorder on a family and particularly parental life, namely the quality of parental life. In six chapters the theoretical part of the thesis presents the current view of specific language impaiment (developmental language disorder, DLD), its diagnostics and the therapy for it, as well as the system of support for children with DLD in the Czech Republic and the issue of parenting of a speech handicapped child. The goals of the empirical part were to give a description of the parental hardships caused by DLD in a child, identify the affected life dimensions, define ways of providing effective support for these parents and describe its impact on the parents' competencies, experience and ways of coping. Qualitative methods have been used in the empirical part of the thesis. The exploratory set for the study was made up of 25 parents (6 fathers and 19 mothers) from 20 families. A family's inclusion in the research was conditioned upon a diagnosis of DLD in at least one child of the family by a qualified specialist. The ages of the children ranged from 3 to 13 years, and school age children and preschoolers were represented roughly evenly. The parents were interviewed via semistructered in-depth interviews. They were given a questionnaire created by the author that was to show the characteristics of the participants and their families. Some of the participants also filled in a brief diary chart. The data obtained through the semistructured interviews have been processed though ATLAS.ti software and transformed into a grounded theory. The research has shown the complexity of the hardships experienced by parents and families when they have a child with DLD. The hardships experienced by these parents are in most aspects comparable to those experienced by parents of children with more serious handicaps, though their features dynamically change according to the child's age and the progress of his/her symptoms. During preschool age the main problems are the child's speech difficulties and various aspects of caring for the child. On the other hand the development of specific learning and behaviour disabilities and socialization disorders is the dominant problem when the child reaches school age. Further the research has shown the crucial role of providing support to parents of DLD children as a way to prevent failures in the parenting of such children. Four types of support provision have been identified based on different levels of expertise and the personal contact between the provider and the person receiving the support. Expertise, awareness, individual characteristics and the support provision system were identified as the intervening variables. The main characteristics of effective support provision were found to be orientation, the time-aspect, accessibility and communication. The consequences of support provision for parental coping suggest the importance of combining different support types and the significance of parent-provider dynamics. In the parental coping strategies five types of strategies have been identified in accordance with parental activity and the impact of the support.
Development and Support of Parental Competencies in Working with Vulnerable Families
HÁJÍČKOVÁ, Andrea
This diploma thesis is focused on the issue of parental competence in vulnerable families. It offers an insight into social work with families where biological, psychological or social development of children can be threatened. Parental competence is related to fulfilling functions of family and satisfaction of needs of all family members. The aim of this work is to describe how social workers support and develop parental competence when working with vulnerable families and children. In accordance with the aim of the work, the author defined two research questions which focus on how social workers approach and influence parental competence of their clients. In her research, the author used qualitative approach which provided deeper understanding of social workers' intervention in vulnerable families. The research involved survey and semi-controlled interviews. To assessed the collected data, the method of data classification was used. The analysis of the obtained data has shown that it is essential to develop principals of family support which are reflected in the relationship between social workers and families. Only then support can be provided. Social workers should strive to build trust, approach families with respect, empathy, authenticity, without prejudice and in certain cases with sufficient authority. In their interactions with families, social workers should act as partners, motivate clients towards change and promote interdisciplinary collaboration. To develop and support parental competence, it is important to create a support system and define desired patterns of collaboration. Social workers should provide not only information but also support, help, and alternative perspective on the situation to empower their clients. That can be achieved by accompanying families, providing practical training, mediating contact with social environment, providing professional assistance etc. This should be done so that client's will to learn and change their behaviour leads to successful acquisition of parental competence. Findings of this work can serve as a feedback for social workers.
Parenting skills of mothers with psychiatric diagnosis in the context of family policy
Pavlíčková, Karolína ; Dobiášová, Karolína (advisor) ; Hejzlarová, Eva (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of parental competence of mothers with psychiatric disorder, with an emphasis on the difficulties such diagnosis can have on the family's functionality. The most severe, in practice, seems to be the necessity to place the children in institutions, away from their families, in cases where no other family member can take care of these children during the mother's absence as a result of the attack. Due to the nature of the disorder, periodicity can be expected, which significantly disturbs the child's development and relationships within the family. The real impact was observed in the empirical part via a case study focusing on six families that have a mother diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder. The needs of these families were mapped through interviews and were later compared to the current offer of non-profit organizations. The results were used to find out, which services are offered and in which areas do these families require support. Due to the nature of this problem and the necessity for systematic solution when it comes down to the provided psychiatric care, I reached out to the current Minister of Health, who commented on the present situation. The presumption that the biggest impact is observed in families with single mothers proved to be right,...

The practical part is processed through a qualitative method. To collect the data there was used the technique of an interview. The employees of the educational consultancy devices and the parents of visual impaired children took part in the interviews. The research terrain was formed by specialist's offices and client´s households. The results of practical part pointed out the problem in a system of consultancy where the main problem is the amount of educational consultancy devices and their workers. The results also show that the importance of parenting skills is not the priority for the specialists and, finally, that the supply of services in some spheres is incompatible with the real parents needs. The bachelor´s thesis may be used as a study material for students of the pedagogical branches as well for pedagogical public. These are parents of visual impaired children which the thesis is primarily used for.
